OS on a CD !
Knoppix, or KNOPPIX (http://www.knoppix.org/) is an operating sytem which can be run entirely from a CD without installing it into the Hard Disk. This is a Linux Operating System developed by Linux consultant Klaus Knopper. To Knoppix OS you don’t need to install anything on your system. All you need to do is set your primary boot device to CD in your system BIOS and Knoppix will take care of the rest. It’s extensive hardware detection allows most systems to start without any configuration.Although this OS is primarily designed to be used a Live CD, it can be also installed on a hard disk like a normal operating system. Knoppix comes in two flavours : the traditional Compact Disc (700 megabytes) edition and the DVD (4.7 gigabytes) “Maxi” edition. Knoppix mostly consists of free software, but also includes proprietary software.
There are quite a number of prebundled applications that come with the Knoppix CD including the popular OpenOffice.org, Konqueror and FireFox web browser, Apache Web server, PHP and MySQL.
